Caroline Leavitt, Author of Girls In Trouble

Question:

Do you have odd writing exercises or superstition?

Answer:

Do I have any superstitions? Oh yes. Titles cannot be one word (the one novel I titled with one word was universally loathed by everyone on the planet--so that takes care of that.) Although three word titles seem to be good luck for me, I'm branching out now, tricking myself by using syllables. Five syllable titles are fine. I also have to have a first chapter I am in love with before I can move on. And I cannot tell anyone what the book is about--almost as if the whole magic of the writing process will vanish with the telling.

Caroline Leavitt, author of Girls In Trouble, Coming Back To Me, and more. Book columnist for The Boston Globe ("A Reading Life")
